“From the time I was a small child, I have always known I wanted to be an artist.  Art has always been my strongest interest.  Because I showed ability at a young age, my parents encouraged me by enrolling me in classes and by talking professional artists into mentoring me.  In High School I took advanced courses and this culminated in my taking classes at The Cincinnati Art Academy. Transparent Watercolor

“I rarely use anything other than transparent watercolors.  I paint on a heavy acid free paper and high quality paints and materials.  The medium itself is tricky for many reasons.  Among them, you never use white paint, but rather reserve any white paper, such as a cloud, keeping it free from paint in the areas that you wish to be white.  If you accidentally paint an area meant to be white, you need to be flexible enough to change your original plan.  Another property of transparent watercolor is that one layer of color will shine through the other.  This can be both a problem and a blessing.  Some colors accidentally created by layering one on another can turn an area a totally unsatisfactory shade.  However, when planned, and occasionally as a happy accident, layered colors are often more brilliant and have interesting variations not possible by mixing the paints.  It is the unpredictable nature of watercolor that most interests me.  You can never totally control it so it is always exciting and a learning opportunity.”
